I must have watched a lot of TV when I was a kid because I still remember a few School House Rock songs a little too well. If you grew up in the 70s like me — or even in the 80s — maybe you remember some School House Rock. Conjunction Junction Whats Your Function ring any bells? I've had their song about the Constitution stuck in my head. | |
"We the people" is not a bad hook. I pulled it off youtube so you can hear it too. I really liked it when I was 5 & it even gives me kind of a feel good rush today, but maybe thats just nostalgia . Whatever it is, a lot of great ideas went in to the creation of America & the Constitution. Those founding fathers were some smart & hard-working MFs. In theory, government now should do all the good stuff they came up with back then like “establish justice,” “provide for the common defense" & “promote general welfare.” I'm not feelin that. But I don't think School House Rock was wrong to make me think America is cool. Maybe it was all those years watching this stuff & saying the Pledge of Allegiance every day in school that keeps me optimistic. I drank the Kool Aide that life, liberty & equality really are my inalienable rights. And I truly believe the government is legally obligated to protect them. I've just got a ways to go in figuring out how to make that happen. |
